Elizabeth handles a wide range of matters, with expertise representing clients in complicated ERISA litigation, health care contract litigation, life, health and disability claims, insurance tax litigation, class action litigation, fraud and RICO suits, securities fraud claims, and other general commercial litigation. She also has significant experience representing clients in employment disputes. Elizabeth has successfully defended clients before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Illinois Department of Human Rights, and in federal court against claims of unlawful employment discrimination, wrongful discharge, and breach of employment contract. She also advises clients on employment-related issues, and has conducted “in-house” seminars with company management on reducing employment-related disputes and litigation risk.

Elizabeth has jury and bench trial experience, and handles cases in state and federal court. In addition, she handles arbitrations before FINRA and the American Arbitration Association. Elizabeth also has extensive appellate experience, briefing and arguing appeals before the Illinois Appellate Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

In addition to providing “in-house” advice to clients on employment matters, Elizabeth also has extensive experience working directly with life insurance clients to provide advice on the legal aspects of claim and underwriting issues.

Elizabeth has conducted seminars and speeches on a variety of claims and litigation issues in-house, at the Midwest Claims Conference, Eastern Claims Conference, before the Chicago Home Office Health and Life Underwriters Association, and at the DRI’s annual Life, Health, Disability Committee Annual Meeting. She has authored articles dealing with electronic discovery and other significant issues in the insurance industry, including approaches to discovery after Metropolitan Life Ins. Co. v. Glenn, and an analysis of the Black & Decker Disability Plan v. Nord decision, both of which appeared in the Life, Health and Disability Newsletter of the DRI. She also authored “MADD Men: Dramatic Contrasts in Accident Insurance Cases Involving Drunk Driving” published in DRI’s The Voice. For over a decade, she has been a co-author of “Recent Developments in Health Insurance, Life Insurance and Disability Insurance Law,” published in the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Law Journal. She has also served as a judge for the ABA’s National Moot Court Competition. Elizabeth is a member of the American Bar Association and the Defense Research Institute.
