Julie is a capital member of Chittenden, Murday & Novotny LLC who has practiced with the Firm since its inception in 2003. She has over 23 years of experience representing insurance and financial services industry clients in ERISA litigation, life insurance litigation, insurance coverage disputes, healthcare litigation, commercial disputes, and regulatory matters. Julie has significant trial and appellate court experience, and is a frequent author and speaker on insurance and litigation issues.

EDUCATION

Julie graduated from the University of Dayton in 1996 with Bachelors of Science in both Economics and Finance, achieving the Douglas R. Scott Award for Outstanding Major in Finance. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1999.

ADMISSIONS

Julie is admitted to practice in Illinois and Minnesota.  She is admitted to the United States Supreme Court, is a member of the Trial Bar for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and is admitted to practice before the following federal courts where she represents clients:

  • United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, Seventh Circuit, and Ninth Circuit
  • United States District Court for the Northern, Central and Southern Districts of Illinois
  • United States District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana
  • United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan
  • United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio
  • United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin

Practice Highlights

Julie represents clients in a variety of civil and commercial matters, including litigation involving ERISA claims, life, health and disability insurance contract issues, alleged STOLI claims, financial institution bond and D&O liability insurance claims, class action allegations, securities law issues, fraud and consumer fraud claims, and negligence, malicious prosecution and other tort theories.

She is an active member of the Defense Research Institute, as part of the leadership for the Life, Health and Disability Committee and a member of the DRI for Life Committee. Julie is also a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association.

Publications

Julie regularly writes and speaks on litigation issues, in particular those impacting life, health, and disability insurers. For over 15 years, she has been a co-author of “Recent Developments in Health Insurance, Life Insurance, and Disability Insurance Case Law,” published in the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Law Journal.
