SARA G. JANES

Sara has been an associate with Chittenden, Murday & Novotny LLC since 2017 and her practice includes commercial litigation and contract disputes. Prior to joining CMN, she began her legal career researching and writing as a law clerk to the Honorable Moshe Jacobius, Presiding Judge of the Chancery Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County.

Education/Admissions

EDUCATION

  • Sara graduated from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2014. Sara served as Treasurer and co-Chair of Fundraising for the College of Law’s chapter of OutLaw, a nationwide student outreach group dedicated to LGTBQ+ visibility and inclusion. Sara held fellowships during her law school years with the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Veterans Affairs, the Office of General Counsel for the Transportation Security Administration, and the Office of University Counsel for the University of Illinois in Chicago. Sara obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Alaska in Anchorage in 2008.
  • After graduation, Sara served as a law clerk to the Honorable Moshe Jacobius, Presiding Judge of the Chancery Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County.

  • Admitted to practice in the following courts: U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Arkansas, U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska, and the U.S. District Court for Minnesota.

Practice Highlights

Sara represents clients in a variety of civil and commercial matters, including litigation involving tort claims and life and disability insurance contract issues.

In 2017, Sara contributed to Recent Developments in Health Insurance, Life Insurance, and Disability Insurance Case Law, published in the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Law Journal.
